On my phone it seems there's some orange peel dimpling... is it just during curing?

Yeah it’s got some orange peel for sure, should come out with wet sanding before buffing although I’m no expert.codedog wrote:On my phone it seems there's some orange peel dimpling... is it just during curing?

Re: NGD: Jazzmaster/Jaguar hybrid
yeah that'll flatten out. Without the benefit of industrial equipment, you'll always get that. Thats why you put lots on because you're going to have to flatten it...
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Re: NGD: Jazzmaster/Jaguar hybrid
What are people’s opinions on poly lacquer cure time?
I say “opinion” because there is varying suggestions on a quick google search between 1 day and 3 months!
The manufacturing spec sheet on this product says I can sand and buff after 6 hours (1k premium clear) but I assume that is with perfect drying conditions. After a quick finger nail test it still leaves an indent so I’m thinking 1 week?
Edit: found another spec sheet which said cure time is 24 hours at 20 degrees and 50% relative humidity

Re: NGD: Jazzmaster/Jaguar hybrid
Your "6 hours" spec advice will be for 1-2 normal coats, not 9 with some heavy. The solvents can get trapped between successive layers making the curing time longer. That's where level sanding the finish during the process helps as it helps to release solvents. Do your test after a week and see how it goes. I've left for around a month before wet sanding - but I'm slow! If the finish starts to "ball" under the sandpaper, then it needs longer.

Cool, I did a level sand after 5 coats. I’ll just keep checking it with the finger nail test until it doesn’t leave an indent I guess.Lostininverness wrote:Your "6 hours" spec advice will be for 1-2 normal coats, not 9 with some heavy. It is looking pretty good though, it flattened out a little just drying. I’m pretty sure it will buff up really nice!

I'm glad that some of that figure/flame came thorugh! The blackwood has come up sweet with the clear coats too.Reg18 wrote:Cool, I did a level sand after 5 coats.
