jimi wrote: Thu May 18, 2023 2:27 pm So bass effects people, what are the essential bass effects for playing pop covers?

Getting back into bassing, and last time (12 years ago) all I had was bass -> amp -> tuner.

Reading this thread makes me think Im missing out and a whole fresh load of GAS. What am I missing out on here?

I'll raise JB for Muse
Bass Whammy :D Fuzz :D Sy-200 :D

For pop covers, bass > amp > tuner
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Played bass in a wedding band for twelve years. I think used an overdrive pedal a couple of times. Anything more than a tuner is gratuitous excess.

This. Unless the effect is intrinsic to the song, your average party goer isn't going to miss it if it isn't there.

Chorus is quite good if you only have one melodic instrument, it can give songs a bit of space and movement. Or if you want to sound like you found your bass tone inside a bath tub

Every sound man worth his salt turns the bass down in the mix anyway so you might as well use 10 delays and 14 reverbs!

Get out of here! Don’t care how many extra strings your guitar has, you swine!

Not sure that sells the pedal that well (to me at least), but the playing is amazing. I'll have to spend some time trying to figure out how these guys to that super quick percussive popping.
They keep telling me tone is in the fingers, but I have yet to see a "look at my fingers" thread.
