The FTT is a remarkable pedal. Just a light push from it gives the Fretless Bass both body and some bite. It’s remarkably touch sensitive as well so “digging in “ creates more options.
I get very few Saturday’s off so when I do it’s Steinberger Saturday
This L2 was made in Brooklyn in April 1983 and is one of three imported to Aotearoa in early 1984 by the great Neville Claughton

I’ve placed the biggest bass I own next to it for context. The Steinberger sound is incredibly strong, massive sustain, no rom for error as every part of the fingerboard is equally resonant. Completely unjustifiable but I’d love an Unlined. L2 Fretless
One of the many downsides of the COVID stuff is that things are harder to find.
Music Planet stopped bringing in acoustic bass strings and anyway, my faves (Elixirs) aren't being made anymore.
The Rockshop reckons they have 12 sets of ABG strings throughout the whole country(!). Probably fewer now because that was two weeks ago.
I am having to buy strings on Amazon (I feel awful but... hey, free shipping!)
"Vince, have you ever tried playing an expensive bass?" - Polarbear.
"And isn't that the finest acoustic bass guitar feedback solo you've ever heard?" - Billy Moose.

Strings and beyond aren’t too bad as an alternative to Amazon. They occasionally do free international shipping promos.
Yep, I'm on their mailing list. Unfortunately, free shipping to NZ doesn't happen as frequently as I'd like.

Yeah true. I’d still rather that than give money to Bezos though!
My friend just got his daughter her first bass
If reccomnended a short or medium scale and they had a budget of $500
They came away with a Gretsch g2220 in Torino green
I was skeptical at first but upon playing the thing today I am blown away. What a great little bass. I thought at they price point that the pickups would suck but they are epic. No buzz , warm, articulate and punchy. Somewhere between a p bass and a hofner. It's a rad little bass.
Good option for studio too I'd say
Low End Lobster with the Gretsch G2220 pickup saga.
Interesting
I hadn't heard about that. Pretty funny tho!
I didn't find these to be noisy. Makes sense that they are single coil if they tended twoaeds the hofner end.
I like the bass. I want one

Entry or beginner level Bass Guitars are today vastly superior to what I grew up with.
Good fortune and good playing to your new bassist friend

I have my doubts she'll stick with it (her dad is my good friend for about 20yrs and I've known the kid since she as a baby ). She's 14-15 now. Have offered to give her some lessons but only once she's spent some time doing the basics first for a few months.
I think it is going to get a flatwound restring to LaBellas. A bit worried about the extra tension as this Bass is a bit fragile in the neck pocket/join
That said it’s been a great gigging Bass, lightweight, lots of options, looks cool.

Looks cool - understatement of the year!
