Well lining up photos is a thing
The Solidgoldfx Beta Germanium into the SS style Ashdown really works. Pleased that Toany was able to send my way

Re: Anyone like bass guitars?
Bah - note to self, read descriptions.... I saw a reduced pickup on musicplanet so bought. Was surfing the rockshop site and thought, ok lets do it properly and bought a reasonably priced neck pickup.
So now I have a lovely passive neck pickup and a lovely active bridge pickup, and never the twain shall meet.
I'll hang onto the active for a future bass build....
p.s. yes wine was involved

So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Re: Anyone like bass guitars?
Since doing the Toany wiring mod I'm far more happy with my neck P-bass pickup... I do wonder how the bridge Jazz I replaced would have sounded, but it was noticeably lower output than the P so I'm confident the $69 including shipping I paid for a Seymour Duncan pickup was worthwhile

First impressions is the pickups in parallel are noticeably quieter than each individually, was thinking maybe I need to swap the phase of one but reading online apparently its normal and you would expect about a 6db drop... any thoughts listeners?
I just found a suitable rotary switch in my parts stash! Love it when that happens.

Re: Anyone like bass guitars?
Thinking out loud
What’s an estimate on getting a neck fretted? I have a defretted USA Fender. I don’t need 2 Fretless basses
Any advice or links to recommended Luthiers appreciated
Cheers

$4-500 would be about the going rate, not sure who would do it in chch though, maybe Peter Stephen? Might be more expensive through him though…

Re: Anyone like bass guitars?
Parts stashes rule, I was able to rewire my bass with the old pots I pulled from my Strat when I put the obsidian wire kit in, and I ordered a pedal kit the other day and forgot to order the knobs (it requires 5 small ones) and found some perfect ones I’d used in the past on another pedal that I gutted for parts so good!bender wrote: ↑Sat Nov 12, 2022 9:10 amjeremyb wrote: ↑Mon Nov 07, 2022 6:56 pm Switch: https://www.jaycar.co.nz/4-pole-sealed- ... y/p/SR1216
