Cab/Faceplate design for 6g6-B bassman clone

Post by StrummersOfThunder »

So ive been really enjoying playing my Ryan 6g6-b bassman clone through a jensen blackbird 100w (thanks grant) loaded 1x12 closed back blonde cab.

Have decided to change the combo into head so have propositioned BG for a build.
Its going to be marshal style head usnit, in blonde. Still deciding if the front of the amp needs ox bloode grill or just solid tolex with some sort of logo detail.

This style but blonde/oxblood combo or no grill cloth

Ive drawn up a face plate, just need to get all the measurements. Can anyone tell me what the faceplate engraver folks need in terms of a file format etc etc ?

Likely they’ll want the file in some kind of vector based format, that way the exact dimensions are there already :-)

CAD format DXF. Some will accept a PDF provided they have the actual measurements so they can scale it.

Just ask your local engraver what format they prefer
When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.

I.e to I convert my CAD (once done to exact scale/measurement) into 'vector' format. I think ive used vector formats for doing prints for shirts with some of my art designs.

DXF like Jay mentioned above is a vector format, basically something thats not an image will be what they need, DXF is AutoCAD's format which is pretty universal so would be a good option :)

Bread and butter for a draftsman, I use Fusion 360 for 3D modelling, but you can do 2D too, what program have you used for the creating it?

If the atom part of the logo is an imported picture it may need some manual processing....

Always ask for a paper printout of the final design first before committing to plastic, metal or whatever.

The outside dimensions are important too. The last thing you want is to have to file or cut off material to make it fit.

As JB says, it depends on the program you used to create the file. Its It's probably something native to that program. It should have an "export" function or see what file types are available when doing a save as.

I assume DXF is probably the best format for engraving as it's a CAD/CAM type of thing.

The default file type for AutoCAD is DWG not DXF however the two are usually easy to interchange or convert between. DXF is generally the simpler of the two.

The 450mm could be a stumbling block for a few shops. What material you want it on, plastic, wood or metal?
