Nile Rodgers is a great story teller / raconteur. Here he talks about listening to the original tapes from Chic Organisation sessions back in 78-79. The man loves his friends and his music.

If I had a time machine, it would be 10pm on a Saturday night in 1978. Nile and I would be walking into Studio 54 with the two Chic singers on our arms. We'd be wearing cool suits stuffed with cash. The women would be looking stunning in sheer body suits. The management would be readying the Chic Organisation 'office', really a private lounge, with cold bottles of champagne. Bad ass funky grooves would be playing at high volume. The air would be thick with decadence and there would be no thought of tomorrow.

Sing Mit Heino.

Heino, instantly recognisable by his blond hair and trademark sunglasses worn to hide bulging eyes caused by a thyroid condition, is best known as the singer of Schlager – schmaltzy German folk songs that propelled him to fame in the 1960s and 70s.

In this video, sturdy German folk sing a song about singing a song with Heino. Heino was so famous that other people sing about singing with him before he starts to sing.

One viewer on Youtube gives this testament to the uncanny power of Heino's ouevre.

"I visited Timmy, a terminally ill neighbor child. He asked me if I believed in the healing power of music. Good question. Hans and I went to the nearest hospital with a CD player in hand and played Heino songs. Seemingly invalid and non-ambulatory people bounded from their beds heading for the door. After seeing this over and over we went to report to Timmy but he was gone. His father, a proud marine who returned from Iraq, cried a single tear as we played Heino in Timmy's memory. Heino heals."

Enjoy some real Schlager, in memory of Timmy.

It is actually hard work playing that stupidly, if you look closely at the beginning there's a drip of sweat that comes off my forehead :D

(*Cough* I mean it's a tear from my eye because of all the emotional playing I'm doing)
