Jay wrote: Tue Dec 01, 2020 3:35 pm What safety gear are you using when spraying? Any air circulation in your garage?
It's a big double garage and I leave both doors open slightly with a few barriers to prevent dust movement. There's also a workshop at one end with an open window. I have a big fan running that pushes the spray away from me and the guitar. I bought a respirator mask with P95 filters. I check the seal thoroughly each time I enter the room.
Reading back, that may have come across as somewhat snarky. Apologies!

The ventilation system is probably the least amateurish part of this project, but it's still fucking amateur.

Nitro and clear coat sprayed! Has come out really well. Barely any orange peel. No major hairs or dust under the clear coat. A few unfilled grains around the edges and routes. Colour is something slightly more intense than a Sonic Blue.

Now will leave it to cure for a couple of weeks then get onto sanding again.

Thanks! It's called Powder Blue. Think it would look great with an all-rosewood neck, but that's for the distant future.

She'll paint her own in a few years.

Used an entire spray can of clear coat on it. Worried it might be a bit thick. Guess it gives more leeway with sanding.

Looking good.

I never bothered with clear so I'm interested to see the difference it makes.

Next issue. Existing screws for the machine heads don't align with the holes in the (standard-shape) machine heads I bought.

Solution 1: attempt to fill the existing holes and drill new holes about 1mm away from the existing one. Not keen on this, but it'll result in perfectly aligned machine heads.

Solution 2: rotate all the machine heads a few extra degrees so I can drill away from the existing holes. Will be stronger but put the tuners at a slightly strange angle. Will obviously make them parallel before I drill them, unlike the photo below.
