Vermillion is a transparent red that may be helpful. It’s that brown, dark blood red

Bit more progress. Fretted the neck but still have leveling and finishing to do. The above pink panther photo, showing the pink stain result, was just the first coat. I am applying more concentrated coats carefully so that I will end up with the colour of my test sample.

Also made my logo from a piece of thin ebony and glued it onto the headstock (properly rebated that is, not like Capo guitars).

Headstock colour does not show up well in this photo, better ones later.

Only stain so far - every time I apply a coat, I also do that to a test piece. Then the test piece gets oiled until it matches the original test sample colour. The below photo was taken just prior to a final coat of stain. I have started putting on the Briwax Teak oil and am up to three coats. Needs a few more before I can start the polishing.

The black binding looks good with the red - must remember that!

Says the Cantabrian? :P  But yes, it's a great combo! In its current low sheen state that red reminds me of Hellboy...

Ahh, but I'm only an import, and I don't think they count you as being a local until the 3rd generation........

I do struggle to picture what colour's work with black binding - apart from the obvious white/blonde finishes.

These will soon be joined in holy matrimony :D

Body still needs one final coat and polish. Neck still needs zero fret, truss rod cover and shaping.

Pheck me, getting the final finish right is a real pain in the Awesome Random Samick Experience. Any Briwax teak oil specialists on here?

Got the finishing sorted, body and headstock front have about 9 coats and are nice and glossy. The neck has got three coats and is ever so slightly glossy. Going to glue in the neck this week and then onto the home-run...

I do like working with Briwax Teak Oil but you have to take your time, any rushing and you phuck it up quite easily...

Moment of truth. Tomorrow I'll put the tuners on, the tailpiece and bridge, string it up and see if my neck calculations and measurements have been correct. If not, I'll throw it away on the side of the road as rubbish

Is this an instrument for personal use, or are you making it on someone's behalf?

On behalf of myself. It is unlikely that I could sell it for an amount that equates to hours spent x minimum wage. Could be more valuable if I put a Capo label on it?
