Bass amps
Hi
I'm looking for a bass amp for under $200, minimum 20w, what do yous think of the Ibanez Promethean P20? its on trade me new for $199.
I was also looking at a second hand Warwick blue cab 30 for $150 starting price or $185 buy now.
does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks

Re: Bass amps
Go second hand. They generally last forever. The Warwick ones are fine, but don't expect to gig the Blue 30.

Re: Bass amps
I'm not an expert but the current generation Fender Rumble series gets very good reviews. You can pick up a Rumble 25 for $229, slightly over budget. They do hold value well though:

Re: Bass amps
I have the Fender Rumble 25, and its pretty good for what it is. Should really power it up more often and play bass lol.
Dave at the rockshop online team pricematched it as well.

Re: Bass amps
a Carvin Bass amp went for 200 on trade me a few weeks ago. so go second hand imo
There are still some that think the neck PU is moved to accommodate the extra frets which only proves they cannot detect the difference in length of each.
Re: Bass amps
Thanks for the replies
I've got a bit more money today so Im looking a bit more expensive now.
I was looking at the Ashdown AAA30 and the Fender Rumble 25 both around the same price, which would be better?
I noticed the fender dosent have an aux volume, but the ashdown does.
any other recommendations around that price?
Thanks

Re: Bass amps
If you're happy waiting and lurking Trademe then you might be able to pick up a used Rumble 40 for under $300. It is ridiculously light for the size and and wattage.
With a 10 inch speaker, proper line out and treble/mid-high/mid-low/bass controls it's a decent step up from the 25. With the lineout you could even record or gig with it if you were so inclined.

Re: Bass amps
Seriously, you want something 100 watts or over on bass if you're looking at jamming. Anything less and you'll be drowned out.
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Re: Bass amps
Yeah definitely go 100w+ reckon. One of the schools I'm teaching at has Rumble 100, good sound and ridiculously light
Re: Bass amps
Thanks but I just need one to practice on at home, I've only just started learning bass and don't have an amp yet so I need one soon because its kinda hard to practice without one, especially when the music is up loud
The Fender and the Ashton are the main ones I'm looking at, I've got up to around $290

Re: Bass amps

Re: Bass amps
Yeah I know but unfortunately thats all I can afford at the moment so unless one comes up on trade me I guess ill have to get a smaller one
The highest I would be able to go buying new would probably be the Hartke HD50

Re: Bass amps
I'd bide your time and wait for something secondhand to come up locally on trademe or some of the facebook groups like nz guitarists/bassists, its nice to have new gear but you get such a better deal secondhand if you are prepared to wait a bitNZ_DR1V3R wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 11:04 pmYeah I know but unfortunately thats all I can afford at the moment so unless one comes up on trade me I guess ill have to get a smaller one
