underway again

Post by Lawrence »

kia ora whanau
hey Ive been quiet of late - lurking not missing - and fighting a few demons.

However, I do have Numbers 23 and 24 underway.

Im wondering about doing a bit of a build thread - not every step but some bits along the way. Do you like that or would you prefer just the money shots at the end. let me know.

Money shots at the end are not as satisfying without the buildup.

Sure, just keep 23 and 24 separate else you will confuse us

Good to hear from you, I'd be keen to see the build process too.
Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...

Hi guys - |OK here we go.....

the start of these comes down to some hardware> Some of you know that I like Steinberger design hardware and I happen to think that the S Trem is the best trem design in existence...but its very expensive. I saw a couple of the cheaper R Trems made by JCustom so I grabbed them to see what I thought.
The R Trem is not a cam design but a two post design like most modern Trems> The big difference is the Spring design.
This is them

So then I looked at what to do with them. I used an S Trem on my favourite number 12 guitar and had the inevitable big cutout at the back

so I ended up making two decisions: first, I would not cut the back all the way through but leave the full outline , ans
I would settle for a 22 fret neck which lets me move the bridge further back.

here is my drawing. You can see the fretboard extends further into the body> The green line at the back of the body is the line of the back

Some assembly Required....

The neck blanks are mahogany/purpleheart with blue veneer pin stripes.
The backs are both Fijian mahogany
One top is ash, the other Maple, and there are two layers of Rosewood just to pretty things up

Hope that wets the appetite!
