Gluing up a couple of Ash body blanks

Is that light? I've had ash guitars that were either boat anchors or light as. Never anything in between.

the light stuff is probably swamp ash. I have never found any "normal" ash that is light

How does that get the different scale lengths per string if the bridge is normal and not angled? Do the fanned frets still "work"? I like the wandering fret markers - nice.

What do you guys think of the shape I've sanded my headstock? It might look better once it's sprayed(the white edges make things hard to gauge) but let me know if it looks funny and why and I'll make the adjustments before spraying it.

Totara body, perfectly quartersawn Rewarewa neck, Towai fretboard, stainless vintage size frets,Martin style U channel truss-rod, Mexi Strat pickups - ceramic magnets removed and pole pieces replaced with AlNiCo 3 in the neck + middle and 5 in the bridge, toggle switches between neck and bridge with a push/pull pot to switch in the middle pickup giving some unique combinations, satin Wipe On Poly finish, started about 2 1/2 years ago - time to get this finished
Will add some more pics tomorrow - just need a fret level and a little more assembly

Sounds very strat like, nice and bright and the switching gives a good range of tones, I'm normally a gain on 11 player but I keep picking it up and jamming some clean sounds

Definitely better. You've got that transfer of radius's (?) on the bottom bout looking pretty good.

I just compared it to a close up of some of the guitars in the David Gilmour auction and see I need to round off the part next to the T in "stratocaster" I'm glad I took a photo so much easier to compare on screen.

I've never even noticed the difference in headstock shape.

... and yeap, after seeing this, I'm convinced - definitely don't bother with a kemper!!!

That’s great to know, I tried my mates kauri strat and it sounded like what I imagined a mahogany strat might sound like.

Ha ha yeah there is a massive variation in the fender headstock shape, also a lot of variation in headstock thickness, thinner in the 50’s compared to 60’s. My girlfriend brought a can of tinted nitro to redo the headstock on her strat so I thought I’d use the opportunity to touch up one of mine at the same time.
