Strymon Iridium
This looks like it might be the thing that makes modelling more affordable and gigable. There's something about it being in a metal box that makes it seem so approachable and normal. Very keen to see how it compares tonally got the Kemper / AxeFX competitors.

Re: Strymon Iridium
Should be decent at least considering most of the Strymon guys were originally from Line 6. 3 amp models at US$399 sounds steep though.
Amps:
Soldano SLO100 x2 | Wizard MC1 & MC2 | Diezel Herbert
Fryette Pittbull CL | Marshall 2203KK | Krank Rev 50 | Mesa Mark 2A
Rack stuff:
VHT/Fryette GP3, GP/DI & 2/90/2 | Peters FSM/Chimera
Verellen Meatsmoke | Synergy SYN1 | Mesa Studio

Re: Strymon Iridium
I don't think it's about the number of amp models. I think it's about having a handful of high-quality sounds in a small, simple, reliable package. Quite a different proposition to the other modelers.
I think if it works as promised, it's cheap. That plus overdrive and delay pedals and you have yourself a gigging rig to plug into a PA.

Interesting. It's nice to see Strymon keep pumping out new stuff. Amp modellers just don't excite me right now
Might be different if I was traveling for musical reasons

Re: Strymon Iridium
I think this sounds great in the demos I've seen. Where they have cracked it as far as I'm concerned is the Room control - from what I can tell they have designed a fabulous Room effect that does seem to give the sound a real space character, without being effect-y and overly reverby.
My covers band is all IEM already, so I could see myself using this for sure. And as it's essentially got two presets on board, there's my clean and dirty, add a delay and a solo boost and there's all the key sounds on a tiny pedalboard.

Re: Strymon Iridium
I was planning to go for the Katana MkII but now with this, it has 3 amps, 9 cabinets and an IR loader ain't bad at all!!! depending on the local price and availability now

Re: Strymon Iridium
My reading of it was that each of the three amp options had three cabinet options. I don't think you can use whichever cabinet with any amp. This really wouldn't matter to me, though.

Re: Strymon Iridium
You could swap them around in their editor though, or load other impulses, or different ones for left and right channels, would just take a bit of fiddling.
Although this seems aimed for customers who want it simple.

Re: Strymon Iridium
You could presumably also run a delay pedal from the output of the Iridium, as it's at line level as opposed to speaker level. That means you'd have the delay applying to all your gain stages and even the cabinet sound. Might sound interesting!
Re: Strymon Iridium
Was listening to Brian Wampler talk about this pedal on his podcast earlier this week, apparently this pedal has had a fair bit of interest due to a rather clever and supposedly planned photo that was leaked. He seemed suitably impressed about it from what he knew of it at the time (would have been recorded a few weeks ago), must say I like the look of it too. Don't know if it's something I would buy, but very cool nonetheless

Yeah, think I'd choose this over the Katana MkII as wellKNNZ wrote:I was planning to go for the Katana MkII but now with this, it has 3 amps, 9 cabinets and an IR loader ain't bad at all!!! depending on the local price and availability now

Re: Strymon Iridium
That's the beauty of impulse responses, they capture the real sound of a cab in a room!
