Me neither, I've tried to get into him in the past too, he's one of those guys like Eric Johnson, very polarising player...

My dad was a big Jeff Beck fan. He bought an instrumental album Beck released in the late 80's and it was just an album of a guy making strange whale mating noises with a guitar.jeremyb wrote: ↑Sat Oct 08, 2022 8:51 amMe neither, I've tried to get into him in the past too, he's one of those guys like Eric Johnson, very polarising player...

I wouldn't say ignorant or a kretin.
I think that is the problem, if his vision of uniqueness sounds like the pinnacle of self-indulgent nonsense with an electric guitar to you (does to me), then no amount of technique or skill will overcome that.Lawrence wrote: ↑Sat Oct 08, 2022 6:59 pmDanger Mouse wrote: ↑Sat Oct 08, 2022 6:52 pmMy dad was a big Jeff Beck fan. fascinating....Have you ever watched Live at Ronnie Scotts? I can't think of anyone who has a greater mastery of their own vision for guitar than Jeff Beck. I get the Johnson might be seen as a speed freak, but Beck doesn't play fast just beautifully. His pitching on slide is extraordinary..and he achieves the one thing we should all be reaching for: Uniqueness. You can tell Beck within a couple of notes...and Ive never heard anyone copy him successfully. For me he epitomises the concept of a guitarist as an artist. Not a pop star, not "alternative (for talent) " just supreme skill and unique artistic expression.
I never managed to. Closest I came was when I was in London with my parents when I was 15 and they said "There's no way you're going to a gig in Brixton".foal30 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 3:34 pm I will have a look at this:

Not sure they are the most influential band of the last40 years but certainly remember them hitting like a hammer in the late 1980’s.
Was lucky enough to see them live a few times
Did not know you are from England Hamish.hamo wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 4:14 pmI never managed to. Closest I came was when I was in London with my parents when I was 15 and they said "There's no way you're going to a gig in Brixton".foal30 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 3:34 pm I will have a look at this:

I walked through Brixton at 2am by myself once, there were plenty of very shady looking characters hanging around together, as I headed to the tube station. A mate later told me I was very, very lucky to have got home, but I was full smelly bogan back then and we decided that the dodgy guys I walked past probably thought I was too crazy to start something with.
I'm not but my parents are, we were there on holiday.foal30 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 4:51 pmDid not know you are from England Hamish.hamo wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 4:14 pmI never managed to. I can't quite figure out if "Good grief" or "OMFG TEARS!" were positive or negative reactions.
