I spent most of 6th and 7th form obsessed with Jaco. Performed 'Portrait of Tracy' and 'The Chicken' for my practical assessments. Could never find anyone willing to do 'Birdland' with a me sadly. I remember arranging it for solo jazz guitar at some stage, should try dig it out....foal30 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 10:13 pm https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lT7hsylmZ ... ZXBvcnQ%3D

Re: YouTube goodness
Thanks. I’ve got a couple of bass transcriptions of “Birdland” I should probably have a proper look at. There’s one lick I’ve totally stolen for 20 yearsrobthemac wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 11:38 pmFirst few bars are slow, but he escalates quickly...foal30 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 10:13 pm https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lT7hsylmZ ... I never got that into Jaco but his parts on “Dry Cleaner from Des Moines” by Joni Mitchell is jaw dropping for feel, swing, tone and chops. Probably the one piece that I might exhibit as this the Jaco to listen to
My Dad was a big fan of a Pat Methany album with Jaco on it.

Yeah, bit where he just rips the triplets at the end never ceases to amaze me. That whole album is fantastic. 'Goodbye Pork Pye Hat' is such a contrast in feel, but again fantastic playing. Pat Methany really takes a back seat to the bass and vocals while holding everything together.foal30 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 20, 2023 10:23 amThanks. I love this track, and I thought today, "I should look up and see if there's a vid of the drummer", and there is, and it's every bit as mind-blowing to me as I thought it would be.

Man I love that Star Fleet project, I've owned and enjoyed the original since it was very first released way back when I was a kid.
I've already got my Mrs. to buy me one of the box sets for Christmas next year. Hopefully it's safely hidden somewhere around the house already
and she doesn't forget where she put it (like she has with early bought presents in the past)

Did you ever find any of them? Would be pretty cool finding them years later and hearing her say, "oh yeah, that's where I put it!"

Yep, she found a guitar book she’d bought me a few years previous hidden at the back of the closet. I kept quiet, said thank you and didn’t tell her I’d bought my own copy when I didn’t get itMiniForklift wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 11:54 amDid you ever find any of them? Pretty cool footage of Jimi Live At Woodstock 1969, it's an amateur film but for something that was recorded 50+ years ago it's bloody good. Sound quality is excellent and it's been cleverly put together alternating between B&W and colour footage. Great to have cranked up while you're cooking dinner

Re: YouTube goodness
There should be some nice vintage guitars in here, I remember him owning at least one 1959 Les Paul
