Favourite open tuning and why?

Luckily I brought my overpriced, heavy, Rich Robinson signature brass slide in hand luggage so plan to get into it with the resonator.

Got me thinking, what's your favorite open tuning and why?

I like three open tunings. G for the most part as it's the easiest to convert the standard tuning note patterns to. D because it's the other de facto open tuning and easy to drop the G string a semitone for the minor Bentonia version. Favourite sounding though is C ( CGCGCE ) cos it just sounds huge although I use it least . Being a lazy ( and fortunate ) bastard I have a guitar for each.

Years back a band mate would tune his 12 string to C#

But I think that was downtuning not open tuning iirc

My favourite tuning is Open D, simply because I love the sound. Open G I also like and there is a lot more tutorial material out there for it.

I like to just drop both E's down to D.

Makes it easier to not sound like a drowning cat and it's quick to go back and forth between that and standard tuning on a single guitar.

Yvette Young made a joke about “FACADE” tuning. Gave it a try on a whim. Honestly songs writing themselves

C is great but it's a bitch to tune to. A dedicated guitar really is the answer.

Open Dm. Skip James territory and that small part of the western Delta (that currently escapes my mind) that heavily used this tuning and resulted in the deepest material.

Bentonia MS. Got a sound of it's own. Been close but haven't quite made it there.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give them a try.

I've always gone with DADF#AD which sounds bluesy to me. Rich Robinson seems to use G a lot so I might have to get around that if I want to play any of his stuff. Foal, I went with DGDGBD.

Recall watching a Rory Gallagher acoustic performance where he had to banter with the audience as he continually re-tuned between songs. No electronic tuner that I could see.

Just had a sense of deja vu about this thread. I think I started the exact same one last time I bought a resonator.
