Tone is pretty straight forward, marshall amp with gain on zero, volume cranked, feed that bad boy with an MXR micro amp and CE-1, Boss DS-2 for heavy tones, Ibanez wah for wahhage, hoping to emulate with the katana over the weekend, might end up buying a DS-2 tho', will see how the built in pedals for dirt do....

Live he also has a Fender twin, turned right up to the point where it is just starting to break up. He switches between them during some songs.

Warlocks and Tell Me Baby. Two of my faves.

In the video for Tell Me Baby, when the participants suddenly realise that they're jamming with the RHCP and you see the expression on their face, that makes me pretty emotional. Weird, eh?

That and unrestrained voices and the whole band is going 100%. Whatever band. Live Pearl Jam doing 'Given To Fly' does it too.

Just sayin'.

Pretty happy with my clean tone on the MK 2 for John stuff, with lack of a DS-2 for his dirt tone I'm trying the muff out, gets pretty close, still needs some work... Using the fat wah setting with the expression pedal to emulate the WH-10 and it's not too bad!

.. and then I got a DS-2!! Wow, crank everything and with the volume around 3pm its John Toan for days... with some time over the weekend I'm going to swap out the clipping diodes for some Germanium 1N34A ones for some accurate MIJ spec fun!

Hell yeah. I've got a MIJ DS2 and it is pretty much all you need for every Slane Castle solo. I don't like the pedal much for anything other than that piercing/screaming lead, but god damn is it good for that.

Thats my definitive John toan I wanna hit, seems easy with a DS-2 and a slightly dirty marshall toan on the Katana!
