No too people hear the same thing.
I agree that no two people would necessarily hear the same thing ( although how that can be proven, is another matter ?), but what you can get is an understanding or an idea about the character of tone or sound, based on an accumulation of opinion from reviews.
If you read enough reviews intelligently, from a variety of sources, and you can read between the lines as to the level of knowledge or experience that a reviewer brings, by the way they describe things, and the overall knowledge they have of insruments and sound, it can help inform you. IMHO.
I also try and listen to any sound bites, although some people would also say that is "rubbish" but no two people are the same .... so each to their own.
I personally like to research things I am into, in whatever way I can. Obviously you can't beat actually playing an instrument with the pickups you like, through your amp and your particular setup. But how often do you get the chance to do that when making a decision to buy pickups ?
I like to read about stuff about guitars and amps, etc ... anyway. I love the things
I do like to listen to sound samples or short bits of music demonstrating the guitar, or whatever when I can as well.
I don't presume to be an expert in choosing anything, just enthusiastic about the things I do find, that I like !!!
