Telecaster Pickups

I have just sent the American Elite Telecaster that I won a couple of months back in to get set up and have the neck pickup looked at. Keeps dropping volume in and out, have been advised that it is pretty toast and that it would need to be re-wound or replaced.
The guitar has the fender noiseless set in it which while they sound pretty good, I don't love them. This has made me think that I should look into what options there are around.
I know that this is opening a can of worms as there are a million options, and everyones tastes are different. But thought I would see what opinions there are on what a good set of tele pickups would be. I like the more vintage/classic tele sound for lack of a better description.
I play all sorts of styles and hope that this guitar can cover a lot of it, so looking for something pretty versatile.

How does a guitar pickup even get destroyed? It's enclosed in the guitar?

I had a Am Std Tele a while ago which had nocaster + twisted tele combo. Great pickups, would happily have the same set again.

My Nocaster came with a spare bridge pickup. It's a Mr Glyn something or other. Sounded great. I put it back to stock but it would've been cool either way.

I second this! The standard AM Tele sounds great as is. There will be heaps of different opinions and many good options. My 2c, I tried a lot of different pickups and settled on a Cavalier Lion bridge pickup. Popular local options (Rockshop, Musicplanet etc), Seymour Duncan Broadcaster set, Diamazio Area T. Buying direct from from Direct Imports isn’t crazy expensive either, they seem to have a good stock of Tele Pickups.

I put Toneriders in my Classic Vibe, they are excellent and not expensive at all.

Twisted Tele is a pretty standard choice in the neck these days, and for good reason.

But I'm a psychopath who actually uses the low-output neck pickups on Telecasters and enjoys it.

This new TPS covers a lot of Tele pickups. I really like the BKP in the bridge of the Mexi.

Which is a bit odd as it's a very Stratty pickup.

Yeah cos nobody likes neck pickups in traditional Teles, but everyone creams themselves over JMay making orgasm faces while wailing on the neck pickup of a Strat.

Slowy says that they sound nothing like a Strat neck pickup.

That's fightin' talk...

As it 'appens. In the video posted above the talk about the internals of the Twisted Tele neck pickup and explain why it's so incredibly and precisely exactly like and comparable to the most Stratty of all Strat neck pickups since Dave Gilmour played his LP on Brick in the Wall.

I had a broadcaster / twisted Tele combo in mine, ‘twas a great combo, but next time I’d just buy some Mr Glyn’s :-)

I’d look at something from Cavalier or Q pickups.
