You tube clips of the runt sounded more like my Mesa IV or V than what I think of as Marshall

Pretty sure the Ceriatone Jubilee would be less than that, do you want to look into it further?

There's also a great number of Marshall-like amps like Friedman, Jet City JCA, Mesa Stiletto, Peavey Butcher etc. it's a well trodden path.

I've got a 20w handmade jcm800 clone here that fits in a 10x7" chassis and runs a pair of 6L6 tubes. It's a beautiful thing.

Edit to show a gutshot. It's a terrible photo I know but that's a whole 800 with a custom FX loop module. Apologies to the builder for the photo.

That build is worthy of a vintage Hiwatt. 8)
NASA couldn't wire an amp this nice. I feel honoured just having it in my house.

The other side is nicely functional at this stage.

Which pedal are you getting by with?

Here's an "or what?"

I'm using a UAFX Lion through a PA monitor and getting some of the best sounds I've ever had.

My vintage Marshall Super Bass is appreciating the rest, although it'll need to get fit again if I have any gigs sometime. In fact, where I'd have sometimes gigged with a twin Marshall stack set up (mostly for show), the Lion is good enough to give me a genuine twin amp set up and options.

:D

This is some bloody clever thinking, and may well be the path to the best solution.

It got me thinking, so I've pulled out my TonexOne micro sized pedal which I use as a grab and go (fits in the guitar bag pocket) and loaded a preset into it with the cab section turned off; feeding straight into my Marshmallow-made amp's effects loop. And voila, a more Marshall tone than I was getting out of my JHS AT+ pedal.

And given that I also use a boss waza TAE at home, I can easily load up a 4x12 IR and play it through my computer monitors.

Cheers, gonna give this some time and focus. I might still be tempted by a physical amp in the near future - so NZTone I will still think about the Ceriatone (maybe see if your friend can send me shots including gut shots!) but this may well scratch the itch.

I agree on the AT+ front, wasn’t the Marshall I was looking for either, so it lives alongside a BE-OD

Sounds like you might be sorted, it’s the way of the future I reckon!

If you decide you want to know more about the Ceriatone, I’ll just put you in touch with the man who’s got it and you can take it from there, just let me know if you want to look into it, no stress either way, much cooler having a pocket sized amp instead though!

Cheers Tony

Also thanks again to the Captain. I've spent a few hours with a smile on my face ripping out on my newly found Marshall sounds from the Tonex. Quite an impressive sound, for such a small adjustment.

That being said, I'm seriously going to look at getting a Lion because they sound awesome on the YT so should make for even more fun than the Tonex.

One thing I like about the Lion is how simple it is to dial in. I cannot stand option paralysis from overly complex gear. I love simple single channel, NMV amps that sound good through just about any speaker set up and the Lion covers all that really well.

User tip: I run my whole set up as pedal board and effects (on a Loopmaster switcher) > Lion as amp (just bypass it to go into a real amp) > into a passive DI > Australian Monitor 2-way PA speaker/Monitor. I really like the sound of these speakers. A bit heavy but tonally smooth and warm. The DI lets me use the Mic input of the speaker for better gain control and the ability to adjust treble and bass.

I have my other monitor speaker in the lounge at home so I can plug straight into that for quieter practice and effects testing. I love how that then translates to the rehearsal set up and a live set up using the real half stack.

My bandmate uses another '74 Super Bass he bought from me and Mesa 2x12 and apart from the differences in tone from guitars and pedals, my set up is a great match and has no trouble keeping up. In fact, true to type, I can sometimes be a bit too loud.

Did Oldie ever sell his Ceriatone Yeti (or was it Son of Yeti?). Would that maybe fit the bill? I don't remember much about it but I thought it was in this ballpark.

And where is Oldie anyway?
