NAD: Vox AC4
4W, 1x10 combo.
Longtime curious, never played one. Mr Smallface was selling one for a price that allowed me to indulge my curiosity and painlessly move it on when I was done.
Ah the best laid plans............
Every guitar I have loves this thing, acoustics included (Anybody want an AER?). It has a huge pallete of clean tones and if you want Vox OD, dig in, it's right there.
I went through it and replaced V1 with a 5751 which for me is just habit. After a valve stash rummage and tasting session, the JJ EL84 was replaced with one of my old Mullard equivalents. Immediate impression was increased volume and presence with this particular Mullard so I stopped there.
I love the sound of me playing through this amp, probably the highest compliment I can pay it.
It's a perfect volume for home; it works well from accompanying a vocalist with no mic, up to a band with moderate drummer once you plug in an external speaker. That speaker needs to be 16 ohm but by great fortune, my #1 working cab is a 1x12 Celestion Blue, 16 ohm. "You win some; you might get lucky now and then".......Thanks Mark.
Thing is, I don't use the Blue. Oh yes, it really does sound good but it takes the amp out of the home. I'll take it to a jam with a rhythm section but at home, the Greenback 30/10 sounds superb.
Dave, thank you Sir. I had no idea what a wonderful thing I was getting!

You figured in the buying decision, " Well I know Ben likes them."

So glad you're enjoying it Bruce!
I climbed on the back of a giant albatross which flew through a crack in the cloud to a place where happiness reigned all year round and music played ever so loudly

It hasn't helped. I have enough worry about leaving amps neglected too long already.

I must warn you all that it is a gateway drug to AC10 ownership.

Noted!
I'll be searching for treble boosters at some stage soon. Have never tried one before.
