Recommend me a drum machine please

Hey guys,

I was watching the Rainger Effects video that Jeremy posted the other day. on the video he had the Snare Trap drum machine. It looked really cool, and easy to use, plus had come cool things like delay etc. The things that makes me unsure about this one are the beats seemed to be quite 'hip hop' focused, and in order to make it easier to use, some things were locked down - which might make it less versatile.

What are some good options for a first time Drum Machine user?

I'm only going to use it at home to play along with - I've got no idea what they all do, and what's a good option for me.

Thanks :-)

Check out "Drum Beats+" in your app store on your phone, run it thru a bluetooth speaker or whatever and its got a ton of genres and beats in there :-)

I have a Sdrum pedal on my board and I love it. For extra fun, I feed into a delay pedal. Can be picked up for a cuplahundy.
I considered the snare trap but yeah, it's limited.

Thanks guys - I'll check those out. I'm also checking out videos of the beatbuddy/beatbuddy mini and the volca beats/drums. The volca ones are cheap, and look cool - but I'm not sue if I could handle the sequencer input format :-)

I can second the SDRUM being good. The "strum to program" thing is cool but I never really used it. The upside is it has two big pads, one for a kick and one for a snare. Tap in a rhythm using these and then pick some hats/cymbals to go over the top. Dead simple and it doesn't get in the way of playing. It also moves pretty simply between verse/chorus rhythms with a tap of the pedal. If you want something to play along with then get one.

Actual drum machines are a different beast. You end up needing a lot more time to understand them and can get quite deep into the rhythms. They might prove more of a distraction to playing your guitar!

Hey guys, thanks heaps for all of the help and suggestions. I'm going to go with a looper, and just load some beats onto there :-)

Anyone selling a looper?

Out of curiosity, why would you want an actual drum machine? Wouldn't you be better off with a software one? You can always save things as .WAVs or .MP3s and either run them through a looper or get a $20 MP3 player. You can use any samples you want and you're not stuck with preset beats.
