Strymon Deco
Um...Okay
Disclaimer: I've only just met this thing and I'm no expert on it.
'Hey, what if we gathered all the sounds you could get from molesting two reel to reel tapes and put them in a box?'
Someone at Strymon asked that question, and the Deco is proof they took it seriously. One half controls distortion from tape saturation and the other half, modulation/speed effects. This offers really organic tremolo, delay, chorus, flange and a range of swoops and wobbles that I can't even begin to describe. This is a very precise tool; minor changes can have notable effect. And it always makes you sound better!
And there's no way I'd ever have one on my gig board.
The Deco is subtle. I don't mean it's weak or anything, but it's best work is with the dynamics of low volume. Put this between your guitar and home amp, settle down for a bit of noodling and switch this on.
I'd describe the result as 'worth the effort'.
One polarising thing; those of you used to tweaking, please proceed immediately to your Happy Place. The Deco only does what the old tapes did; nothing more. So it will tell you what it's got and over to you to make something with it.
I don't like infinite choices so I heartily approve.
So there you have it. Selection anxious, technophobic old fart falls in love with Digital Technology.

Don't call yourself old please. Think I am a month older than you and I feel like I am only early fifties.
Now, about looks...

Ah yes, something else to play with.

This is exactly your kind of pedal, Ben.

Yeah, I’ve thought that since it was first released. Not sure why I haven’t got round to trying one.

Re: Strymon Deco
I've always been interested in these - mainly because I couldn't quite fathom what it actually did at first.
I wonder why he wasn't digging it through his Nord? I'd like to run it through mine. It'd sound better on piano settings.

I wish they'd release a cut down volante in this form factor...

Re: Strymon Deco
it does the SINGLE BEST SLAP ECHO I HAVE EVER HEARD
one of the echo modes, sends the slap back at you out of phase. So it's as if the sound hit the back wall and bounced back delay-ed and with the phase messed up.
My deco is irreplaceable. If I could only have one pedal, it would be the Deco. If they ever make a Deco Pro, I'll buy it.

Re: Strymon Deco
yes. very ouch on the price tag. Still, if you have a favourite switch, you can get 4 sounds out of it. 2 from the boost-y overdrive family and another two from from the chorus/echo family and a touch flanger by holding the right switch.
