Got my heart set on a vintage spec jobbie. Surprisingly hard to come by.

Not just Japan, most manufacturers aren't including cases anymore. Even the fender USA professional line comes with a gig bag. Guitar shops make money from cases sold at purchase, and I've a hunch case manufacturers are owned by the same corporates that own the guitar company, not to mention most guys I know have a few for their entire collection, not one for every instrument.

Less wastage, less production cost, less shipping cost, less storage space required, same retail price, more profit.

If shipping overseas though I'd have thunk ishibashi could have found a polystyrene surround and old shipping box somewhere.

I got a 2019 MIJ 60s Telectaster Custom that is a great guitar - super light and resonant. Looks like this

I was lucky I had a friend travelling to Tokyo last year, he brought it back with him.

It’s a keeper, I upgraded the pickups to Suhrs and it’s scratching the Tele itch nicely.

I'm currently in Japan. You can buy them directly from ishibashi and should be able to save a bit of cost. If you send me a direct mail, I can give you the direct contact.

Jason left Ishibashi some time ago.

Ishibashi went through a period recently where they stopped shipping to NZ/AU because of the CITES complications. Not sure if they have readdressed the situation since the CITES issues resolved themselves (somewhat).

No more than usual cost, until you're dead.

GrantB wrote: Wed Jul 29, 2020 11:03 am Just keep in mind nothing is moving fast from Japan right now. I have three orders from USA stuck in Japan. There’s probably a 2-3 month wait I’m told.
Actually the hedra I ordered from the U.S did get stuck there for 10 days. Seems like a case by case thing maybe
