Hi team, I've been playing a lot from my home studio and thinking about getting an amp modeller of some type, so I can be kinder to the neighbours and also widen my tonal vibes out occasionally.

An Irridium would be perfect but it's WAY too expensive, are there any other options for excellent sounding direct at a much lower price? I don't need or want bells or whistles, just a few options to cover Fender/Vox/Marshall

Asking this myself at the moment.

I use Bias FX2 on my PC. It can sound great, but most presets at least sound awful there's a lot of option paralysis. Also, it requires a fair bit of processor and RAM grunt.

I had a Tech21 British character pedal for while, that was ok but never great.

Joyo pedals (especially American Sound and AC Tone) are highly regarded for everything but reliability.

I think I'm just gonna bite the bullet and go for an Iridium when I find one for sale.

they've been advertising this hard out online. I'd be keen to know what they're like.

I shall second the Joyo ripoff of the sansamp preamp pedals, run direct into your interface or via a DI? around $58 a pop. This is what I intend to do for bass :)

They have, but each advert has heaps of comments from pissed off people who paid months ago and have heard nothing.

I’d go scuffham S-gear if you already have an interface. Really awesome sounding software sim.

I ordered one back in November. Still hasn’t arrived and I’m eyeing up the last date on which I can dispute through PayPal (it’s later this month). They have sent me (when I last bitched at them) redemption codes for Bias Amp 2 Pro and FX which I’ve not even tried to use yet but at least that’s a bit of an offset against the annoyance

One of the new THRs? I just grabbed one of the older ones for a simple, quiet practice solution. And it does sound very good at lower volumes. The current version has more amp models—or at least the models that were previously available across three separate units are now rolled into one—so would seem to cover the Fender/Marshall/Vox bases.

Depends on whether you need/want a proper big speaker, I guess.

What do you call it if its not modelling? COSM?

good suggestions all!

anything DAW or interface related is out, I just can't be bothered and want hardware! I have some good amp sims already in Logic if it comes to that.

I have a tech21 British., but I feel like it's pretty blah at edge of breakup sounds. although it's pretty cool for high gain.

Ed, what is a KOC like as a direct recording - does it do speaker modelling and the whole deal? the bassist in my band has a Big Black KOC and it's a great sounding amp but I've never tried it direct.

that atomic amplifier looks cool too, I like the simple pedal with knobs kind of deal.
