Red Witch 7 Sisters pedals

Post by Conway »

Anyone tried these out yet? In particular, I'm interested in the clean boost or overdrive. And how small are they?

Yep I've tried them. They're teeny weeny. They sound really good, although the Boost we tried was a bit bung. The overdrive was very nice, very natural sounding.

I tried out the Scarlet Overdrive recently. I liked it a lot. There is a trim-pot inside that tweaks the high mid and lows. In the middle it had a very nice vocal screameresque sound that was great for boosting a dirty channel for solos, but I found it cut a lot of low end balls from the sound. By tweaking the trim pot I got a fat, beefy sound that was good for rhythm tones on the clean channel and for big chunky rhythm sounds on the gain channel. I could easily find a use for two of them with different settings.

They are pretty small; probably just over half the size of an MXR pedal.

The latest Guitar Player magazine with John Petrucci on the cover gives the 7 sisters overdrive, distortion, and fuzz pedals 4 out of 5 stars and nice words.

Saw some in Rockshop Lower Hutt for about $175 which isn't too bad, halfway between a Boss Blues Driver and Ibanez Tube Screamer.

Haven't had a chance to try them but I think the concept is really, really awesome.

I tried the fuzz - it was great. Will be getting one, and maybe the compressor too.

I kinda would like all of them on a board, from a size and OCD cosmetic thing, but I wonder if I would forget what colour did what.

So, after talking about getting the clean boost or overdrive, when I saw them all lined up in the K Rd Rockshop I had a rush of blood to the head and bought the Ruby fuzz. A couple of weeks later and I'm afraid I'm not really getting on with it. But then I had the same problem with the Zvex Fuzz Factory - I deeply wanted to like it, but it was just too fuzzy for me.

So... if there's anyone who has the 7 sisters clean boost or overdrive and wants to swap for a Ruby fuzz, please let me know.

Swap for a BYOC Fuzz?

Fuzz ain't for everyone that's fer sure. I do like it into an octave or something...maybe you need to buy even more pedals to make some fuzz love occur?

I've got a Micro POG as well, but the 2 don't really get along very well together. As much as I'd like to like fuzz, I just don't think it's my cup of tea. Twice bitten...
