Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

This expensive garden implement will likely be sent back. It plays and sounds good but there is undisclosed work I am not happy with. Sucks.

Massive, MASSIVE thank you to Conway / GuitarsRock NZ. He is an absolute gem of this community. I love this man
I initially looked at Andertons but going with Guitars Rock NZ was a no-brainer in every respect (price / wait / supporting local).

Re: Forums have been slow, how about a 'In the mail' thread?
I finally have something in the mail so I can post in this thread. I finally bit the bullet and bought strings off the net.
It's been a major PITA because Elixir has stopped production on my faves (I play acoustic bass guitar, if we've never met). Not just that but AB strings in general are starting to become a little scarce(r) in NZ. AND being a 5 string player in High C tuning, I need loose acoustic guitar strings (.020-somethings) to complete the set. So a lot depends on whether a brick-and-mortar sells loose strings and what is available, It's a treasure hunt at the best of times, sometimes I've had to go to 2-3 places searching for strings to make up a complete set. OK, I think ahead and had a couple of spare sets of fours but what a drag it's been hearing the strings downgrading day after day and wondering if they sounded shit enough to be changed. Now I just have to watch out for porch pirates.

Is there anything you can do to rejuvenate old strings? I know folk used to boil them.Vince wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 8:55 am I finally have something in the mail so I can post in this thread. I finally bit the bullet and bought strings off the net.

Re: Forums have been slow, how about a 'In the mail' thread?
Yeah, I tried that many years ago and it SORT OF works. They don't sound NEW but, for a couple of weeks, they sound like they're only about a month old.
I've also seen a video where Dmitry Lisenko (an acoustic bass guitarist about as famous as John Gomm in his field) wraps steel wool around a string and rubs VERY energetically. Scarily energetically. But that's real desperation.
If I was a "proper" bass player I wouldn't care so much because a dull thud can be good enough. People pay for that sound when they buy flatwounds, right? but for playing solo, I need the sound to be clear and bell-like all the way through.

Maybe a chemical cleaner of some sort would work.Vince wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 10:51 amYeah, I tried that many years ago and it SORT OF works. They don't sound NEW but, for a couple of weeks, they sound like they're only about a month old.
