If I may on your behalf Bruce...

It's one of mine - #3 to be precise :)
It's in a BG pine combo cab and it's had the following tonal mods (which will effect the speaker discussion)...

Reduced Excessive Bass:
1. Changed the V1 cathode bypass cap from 22uF to 4.7uF. This lifts the signal floor up from around 12Hz to 50Hz or so.
2. Changed PI coupling cap from .02uF to .001uF (the typical value in bigger Blackface amps). This tames the low end considerably making the Bass knob range more usable and the amp tighter at higher volumes.

Reduced Blocking Distortion:
1. Installed a 470K grid stop resistor to the grid of the Cathodyne PI.

Reduced the value of the Reverb mixing resistor:
1. Replaced the stock 3M3 resistor for a 2M2. This tames the reverb a bit and gives the amp more gain.

It's all gonna help depending of course on what you're after!

I have 2x Celestion G10 Vintages, 60W, 97dB, 8 ohms, $100 each. Happy to do a return if it doesn't float your boat.

When I picked up the little surf green tremolux from Ryan, we tried 6 or 7 different speakers, mostly 12”. The P10R had such great character compared to all the others.
Vintage P10R or re-issue?
Reissue but about 15 years old.

Goodness do I love a 10 inch speaker!

I have had:

G10 Greenback - Nice to get a little more compression and Marshall-y bite
G10 Vintage - a lot of bass, great for making a small amp sound big, lots of treble and bass made really clean sounds pop and stood up great to heavy distortion, less great for overdriven tones as it was missing that compression. Huge, HUGE magnet and headroom.
P10R, which was great, did that tweedy thing where the bass was loose and slightly blown out. Nice compression. Had these in a 4x10, the single most 3D sounding cabinet I have ever had. Shouts 'fender tone'
now using an Fender Alnico Blue speaker, I believe made for Fender by Eminence. Stock speaker in Pro Junior, Bassman and Hot Rod 4x10 back in the 90s'. Compresses just right, sounds bigger than you would expect, nice tweedy vibe, just a great speaker. I believe Eminence still makes these in their vintage series, but they are not quite the same as the originals were fragile and many were blown up.

Also had a Celestion V-Type and Ten 30, both good speakers but maybe a tough generic rather than having a tonal identity.
I kept the Ten 30 as a spare.

I'd recommend grabbing one of Borge's G10 Vintage, they have a lovely tight and round bottom

Yours has a bass cut mod from memory, right?

I loved the Alessandro that was in there. I also tried it with an open cabs containing a Cream and another containing a P12Q. All were great, but I don't think it needed the reduced bass from the Cream. My choice was Alessandro for general use, or P12Q if you're staying clean.

For what it's worth, the speakers were all in slightly different shapes and sizes of open 1x12 cabs, so there was likely some difference there.

My '66 PR has a Weber 10F150T, 8 ohm, 25w, light dope. Even though it's the 25w with light dope, it still has plenty of headroom and doesn't start to breakup until over 5. And it's plenty loud with a 5 piece and some pedals around 4-5.
The favorite for Princeton Reverb:
(if you use no pedals for dirt and you want the speaker to break up a little): [10F150T, 8 ohm, 25w, light dope]
(if you use pedals for dirt or you want the speaker to stay cleaner): [10F150T, 8 ohm, 50w, light dope].

For mid 60’s amps using ceramic 10’s where a bright, articulate tone is desired. Replaces Chicago Jensen C10Q, Oxford ceramic 10, CTS ceramic 10. Our most popular replacement for Princetons and Princeton Reverbs.

That reminds me of my brief trip to Amsterdam. Seller asked if I would like light or strong. I replied with mid to which he replied I only have light or strong  Fair to say the strong White Widow nailed me. Quite euphoric and up rather than laid out wasted, though.

I'd love to try it Ben, Thanks. :D

I'm going to do that but I don't think from what you said it will be the answer. Despite Mike's mods, I never run the bass above 2; there's just too much of it!
I have a G10 Greenback but it's 16ohm. The Jansen drives it and indeed it has a Marshally bite; not what I think I'd want from the Princeton.

I really do like the sound of the Jensens except for the bass. I often use dropped D and they don't like that much. Playing it outside, the Eminence Cajun is glorious. That speaker is going nowhere. Strummers is perplexed that I didn't gel with the attenuator and maybe I was in the wrong mood that week; I don't know.

I have the impression the Princeton's voice varies considerably depending on the speaker used.
That's a rabbithole I'm happy to explore for a while. :D

You might find that rather than more bass, it presents as deeper, lower bass, which might work. I really quite liked the G10 vintage

Ah yes. Likewise. 2007, Kerala India. Should NOT have asked for the strong bang lassi. 24hrs of tripping and woke up under a mattress.
