Don't Want Tube. Don't Want Modeller. Give me Solid State.
I have this thing... maybe it's all in my head or an over reaction.
I want a practice amp that could show up to a band rehearsal and perform. I just sold my Valvestate Head and cab because I wanted simplicity in combo form.
But here's another thing.
I don't want a tube practice amp because I'd be practicing while aware that it's not going to rip until I push it to levels the missus would spank me for.
Then there is modelers, I have had two Katanas from their inception. Amazing things that I will always recommend and one if the kids is getting. But for me, I don't want all the options. I don't want the knowledge that I get get more our of it if I hook it up to pc and tweak it.
I just want a good sounding solid state that is a good platform for pedals to do the work.
I've looked at the 60w and 100w Blackstar Debut series which look promising.
I think the Orange Solid State gear is pretty good but I don't see many options and for combos.
Any suggestions or experiences? Maybe this should be a wanted ad, maybe later.
I don't hate either tube or modelers, their accolades and reputation is undisputed, I just don't know that they fit.
Sunday musings ay.

I'm enjoying my Debut 50 - bought it to use with a modeler but often find myself just plugging into it direct. I also enjoyed my Peavey red stripe studio pro a lot (Bandit's slightly smaller brother).

I'd seriously recommend my ZT Lunchbox. Sounds good with pedals, can easily drive a half stack if you want it to, and it's as portable as your actual lunchbox.
Only thing to be wary of is they project. It might sound fine to you, but folks 2 doors down ask if you really need to be that loud?

Don't talk to me about failure; sometimes I even fail to disappoint myself.

What about a Boss Nextone?
Otherwise, why not just go for something that has more options, and just don't use them? There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Almost bought a debut 50 recently but I need another amp like a hole in the head they’re my pick of the analog stuff that’s out there currently!captainfruitbat wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 2:21 pm I'm enjoying my Debut 50 - bought it to use with a modeler but often find myself just plugging into it direct. What's really wrong with the Katana ? Just ignore the app if you want, it's only there to configure stuff if you need to. I used the App to move the FX loop on every preset, but that's it. I had a Blackstar Debut but I much prefer the Katana's feel and sound. I don't think you can beat them to be honest.
The fact I can move the FX loops makes the amp useable for me, if I couldn't then I wouldn't have bought it. Being able to customise certain settings and then never have to plug the PC in again is a huge advantage.

Katana is great used that way if you can resist the urge to keep tweaking it. I'm not one of those people - if something's tweakable, I will waste all my time tweaking instead of just playing. Which is why I sold my Katana head and bought the Debut 50 from you......sizzlingbadger wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 3:36 pm What's really wrong with the Katana ? What about something in the Vox VR range?

obviously,im going to say peavey. bandit is the logical conclusion, but the smaller ones can also be good if your drummer isnt a complete animal. the silver and red stripes have speaker outs too in most cases.
Also a vote for the katana and just running it like you would a two channel amp.

Old Fender Frontman series do a job. Clean tones are passable. Overdrive tones are not great, but a Bluesbreaker or similar (anything designed for a clean amp) does just fine.
