What complements my Princeton Reverb?

Post by TmcB »

Hi gang,

Wouldn't mind picking your brains.

Looking for something to complement my Princeton Reverb that would be run in stereo with it.

I would like something under 30w with an effects loop. AC15HW is almost perfect but doesn't have an effects loop and I'm increasingly shying away from EL84's

Any suggestions?

What about a Laney Lionheart?

I was very, very impressed at the Lionheart 20 watt 1x12. It has a layout that I have never seen before - essentially, it's 4x Single Ended EL84 power amps that are blended for the main output. The thing is very responsive indeed.

Marshall DSL?

Something Tweed or Plexi would be great, but few affordable options have effects loop.

Wait, the Princeton wouldn't have an effects loop either, right?

Tony, nice little Blackstart HT5 on the forum? Not a 20 watter, but would be a nice compact amp to pair with a Princeton. FX loop, Reverb and not EL84 based

I have always wanted to do a Princeton and a Pro Junior. Blackface with Reverb, Tweed dry, both 10 inch speakers and very compact. Bet that would sound wonderful.

Stereo plus effects loop equals ground loop hell, and effects loops are overrated anyway!

If you get all your dirt from pedals like me I'd be going for another flavour of clean, like an AC10 / 15, I know you don't wanna go EL84 but...
Supposedly, We Were Nightmares.

I don't mind EL84 as much as I mind buying matched quads and every time at least one tube being microphonic.
Better luck with AC15's though, it's true

Any suggestions?
I'd suggest a Gigantic GINORMOUS IMPERIAL IPA (amazing - from Portland), followed by a Cornell Estate Cabernet Sauvignon ...as a gentle nod to Fender, Fullerton, LA, Calif.
