Never heard one or played one, and maybe an unpopular opinion but it is just that, an opinion. Having to do a bunch of mods on an amp to get even close to the sound in your head, then it's the wrong amp for you.
My head agrees with you, my nostalgia can’t be convinced of this logic however! As a 90s Grunge/rock era teen I view most things through rose tinted glasses from
This period. I occasionally get an urge to look for a Mesa 2 channel Rectifier rev F for similar reasons!

I have the Mesa already, looking for something from the other side of the coin it'll be cool to see how you get on with the 900. Is that the one from FB? They offered it to me for $750 if so, but I declined.

Yep that’s the one,I thought $750 was good enough to have a crack! I had a mate who was available to bring it down for me this week so saved me the hassle of shipping. Wouldn’t have bothered otherwise.

One thing to consider is weight, it’s gonna be close to lugging a head and 2x12 cab at once, if you’re beefcake it’s not an issue but…

You have to turn them up to get the goods. Low master = fizz central. Get the master over 6 and it’ll even out.
The GT12-75 probably doesn’t help - it’s pretty bright & crunchy.
Silverchair Frogstomp was a 900 (IIRC). And I think one of the Devilskin guys (Paul Martin?) may be 900 loyal. They can do a pretty good chug if you run em right.
Nah Paul and the guitarist both play through JCM 2000 DSL's

I stand corrected. There was definitely someone out there slaying it with a 900. Getting old and forgetting shit sucks.

Interesting. I was batshit about that album around '96 when forming my first school band - 90's pic of me in that era have me channeling Gavin Rossdale's aesthetic rather hard . Always thought that tone came from strats into Big Muffs to my ears. Might have to revisit to see if I can hear better.

Nigel used the 900, Gavin mainly used a tremoverb and they were blended. Live they used the mesa vtwin pedal rather than the muff, and maybe it was the same in studio. They both used fenders at the time although these days you see Gavin with a Les Paul more often.

Gavin had a few jazzmasters from memory, saw them at Logan Campbell late 1996 and it was the guitar he seemed to use most after a white strat.
