Re: NMAD SV20H
10" in a low wattage combo is much better IMO, not so boomy!

Re: NMAD SV20H
20 watts is not low wattage...
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Re: NMAD SV20H
Yeah but you'd aim for the higher wattage... My Bogner was 120 watts but I usually ran it at 7 watts. At times I ran it full.. so always good to have a cab that would handle it

Re: NMAD SV20H
Agreed. You definitely don't want something that is a compromise at either end of the extreme.

Re: NMAD SV20H
That might work if I’d said low volume…

Re: NMAD SV20H
Further to my previous post about the SV112 cab.
I put my Gold in it to see if that would improve things at all however it still has the inherent problem of squealing all over the place at higher volumes, so I went with my 1936 2x12 cab and voila problem solved.........smooth as a knife through butter just like mum ordered.
That cab is just not efficient at all for the 20 watt amp when you drive it, you need a 2x12.

I am yet to find an amp that doesn't sound better through a 2x12 compared to a 1x10/12.goldtop0 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 2:24 pm Further to my previous post about the SV112 cab.

With my Joyo Beale Street 5E3, I run the speaker in a rear ported closed back bass cab & the amp sounds huge.robthemac wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 2:45 pmI am yet to find an amp that doesn't sound better through a 2x12 compared to a 1x10/12.goldtop0 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 2:24 pm Further to my previous post about the SV112 cab.

Re: NMAD SV20H
When the Cali Tweed came back from service, the Rockshop guys plugged it into a closed Marshall 4x12. It sounded... enourmous.H671 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 4:41 pmWith my Joyo Beale Street 5E3, I run the speaker in a rear ported closed back bass cab & the amp sounds huge.robthemac wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 2:45 pmI am yet to find an amp that doesn't sound better through a 2x12 compared to a 1x10/12.goldtop0 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 2:24 pm Further to my previous post about the SV112 cab.

Re: NMAD SV20H
This conversation reminds me that I own a SV20C, and a 1960a 4x12, and I'm not sure I've ever plugged the one into the other. Must do that.

Re: NMAD SV20H
I think you mean 'louder' not better. Many amps are meant to be 1x10 or 1x12 - not all sound better through more speakers.
As for 4x12, yes they're lots of fun, but gone are the days of my playing through a stack in my 3x3 metre office. Last time I played a 4x12 live was at an outside gig to a thousand people or so. I've also played them in pubs, and the beam from a closed back 4x12 is dreadful if you're in the firing line, dreadful if you aren't because you can't hear the fucking thing. More annoying is the complaints of your band being too loud.
One of the best tones I ever had was from a Mesa Boogie Subway Blues - with a 1x10. Would love to have that one back.
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.
