Well, in a way, that's the one part that's easy to understand. It's aesthetic and marketing. Simple.
Same reason a Gucci handbag costs $5000 USD
I don't enjoy Katanas but at the price, brilliant pieces of kit.
Got hold of one for my mate who's just getting back into guitar in his 50s after a thirty year hiatus.
$250 amp and a really nice $1350 USA tele. Great little set up for him

An excellent home rig that is perfectly giggable. A bandmate has a couple and they sound great. For me though, their dirt is better than their clean and they just don't feel right. But if I only had $400 for an amp, Katana it would be.
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

I keep thinking I should get a katana.

Versatile , reliable, cheap, light, plenty of headroom for big gigs and can get similar tone across a range of volumes.

It’s all the things I should want in a gigging amp, but turns out what I really want is the sound of a cranked Bellbird or 1974x, so just going to stick with that.

It's like the ToneMaster of amp modellers. Crazy expensive one trick pony, but a hell of a trick.

But can’t power a standard guitar cab like the quilter can.

Can someone buy one so we can do an A/B with my old PR? That would be swell, thanks.

I liked the subtle trem/vibrato joke there

Yes, that was entirely intentional :shifty:
