I agree. The kind of power conditioner that ACDC uses is beyond your usual 1u rack mount one. They are full on.
I have a Furman 1U power conditioner for my live rig. So far I've never been in a situation where I've been able to hear a difference between it and the wall socket. I have heard from people I know they used it to fix their valve amp when it sounded awful. However I have it because it's sentimental and it is a bit of insurance for voltage spikes etc.
I think the cheap 1u ones are glorified power strips.

Furman are the main manufacturer however the units used by the pro touring acts are mega bucks and the single rack space ones more widely advertised ( still not cheap ) are unfortunately toys by comparison.

No idea if it will work or burn your house down, but it seems relatively cheap.

Re: Peavey Classic 50 scooby mystery
I really doubt a small fluctuation in wall voltage will turn an amp from great to crap, or even be audible at all.
More likely there's some circuit issue, those classic 30/50 amps have a terrible design and are prone to many issues. I've rebuilt a few and junked the entire internals.
Could be the wall voltage though

Re: Peavey Classic 50 scooby mystery
It’s not the wall voltage. There’s something still amiss in the amp - either broken, or it’s a bad one. Probably why you got it dirt, dirt cheap.
