Reverb buzz

Post by mr_sooty »

What are the most likely causes of buzz coming from a reverb circuit? Was getting noise from my rig last night and it turned out to just be my pesky amp reverb. I love my Maz 18 but the reverb is a constant annoyance. Don't really want to replace the amp (unless I ever find a Mk2 version I can afford) - thinking about just getting a reverb pedal and flagging it because the amp is otherwise brilliant. But will look at getting it fixed if it's possible.

PS, have already cleaned the cables and inputs between the tank and amp. Seems quiet at home. Could have been the reverb tank picking up noise from stage lights.

If there’s enough cable, try turning the reverb tank around 180 degrees so the jacks face the opposite direction. Sometimes it makes for less hum, sometimes for more, but it’s an easy thing to try.

Does the amp have an FX loop? if so a reverb pedal in the loop might be a reasonable solution, but personally I find reverb in front of the amp is ideal.

Nah no fx loop. It doesn't really make much noise at home and I probably don't really need reverb at the big gigs anyway. Will try turning it around though.
