Playing Bass Through a Jansen Bassman
NAD - a 72 Jansen Bassman. Looks like it's been well looked after too.
I have a 6/40 for guitar duties, so I am planning to use this as a bass amp. Has anyone had experience in this? I still haven't got a cabinet, so should I get a 4x10, or a 1x15?

I used a 4x10 for years which was really nice and punchy in the low mids, but lacked a bit of bottom end when it was turned up.
But when I tried a 1x15 it lacked a bit of punch....
So the moral here is get both if you can

Re: Playing Bass Through a Jansen Bassman
I had a Jansen Bass 75 & used it with a 12" PA speaker cab - it sounded good with both bass and guitar. It was a bit of overkill for church duties so it got moved on. Having independent channels and EQ worked well especially with my double neck.
Epiphone Riviera P93 & EJ200CE, Hagstrom Viking Bass, Doubleneck bass/guitar.
Rivera Clubster 45, Carvin AG100D, Ashton BSK158.

Re: Playing Bass Through a Jansen Bassman
I personally have always had more luck adding midrange to a 15-inch speaker than adding sub-bass to 10-inch speakers.
But yeah probably just buy one of these https://reverb.com/item/6753398-mesa-bo ... ogie-black

Re: Playing Bass Through a Jansen Bassman
I think of these as bass amps. Owned several and played through many, and never heard one that sounded "Fendery" for guitar. They lack chime/sparkle in my opinion, but I think that also lends them well to bass rather than guitar. The larger ones (75 / 100) are especially suited. Enjoy!

Agree with above. Crank it hard and just play bass fuzz till the speaker cone flies off or the the grid resistors vaporize. Enjoy

Did Jansen make base cabinets? Maybe I could get our resident can builder to commission one?

Jansen amps can be very cool. Their cabs and speakers, not so much IMHO.crowbgood1 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 6:30 pm Did Jansen make base cabinets? Maybe I could get our resident can builder to commission one?
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Agree with this, especially for bassSlowy wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 7:52 pmJansen amps can be very cool. Their cabs and speakers, not so much IMHO.crowbgood1 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 6:30 pm Did Jansen make base cabinets? Maybe I could get our resident can builder to commission one?

Re: Playing Bass Through a Jansen Bassman
some of those old jansen cabs had Phillips speakers. they have a strange top end to my ears.
love playing bass through those old tube amps

There are still some that think the neck PU is moved to accommodate the extra frets which only proves they cannot detect the difference in length of each.

And if Auckland stays in Level 2 I can pick it up this weekend.
And then show y'all pics of the MikeC Deluxe Reverb head on top of the BG Bassman 2x12
