I'm wondering about trying a different clean boost that doesn't have such a daunting 'treble' boost aspect to it.

Predominantly for surf sound. A little bit of grit is ok but generally want things to stay clean. As a boost for solos with my JM and as an always on for the jag to thicken up the sound a little.

There are a lot of options so would appreciate some advice. Also if anyone has something they are flicking then I'm in the market.

Cheers
I have an SHO clone that you could borrow if you wanted?
I'd love to borrow that for a burn

Really no flavour? I had a SHO clone once and it was like a treble boost! The high end sparkle was magic on cleantone, like when your home mixed track gets pro mastered :D
Then it wasn't made right. They probably used the wonky layout which had a typo in a capacitor (a 10nf instead of 100nf) causing it to cut off the bass. It has a huge impedance (around 10m) which aids some brightness but that comes down as you turn the gain knob so it balances out.

I've two boosts I use and can recommend. One is in a Himmelstrutz Feto Nord 70's ( used to be available on it's own as an Over Under ).
Has masses of level but always sounds very musical, doesn't colour the sound. Bit like playing through a Princeton then kicking in a Twin. Same tone just more.

The other is in a Jackson Bloom which although it's primarily a compressor has a +20 db boost ( flat eq) and also a three band Baxendale eq with +12 db available on each band. You can tailor and boost your tone nicely with the eq. Or just boost it with the boost.

I have the Mini and it's a great clean boost. In front of another gain pedal is does bump the volume a wee bit as well as gain though. Behind another gain pedal it will just bump the volume "cleanly". Super simple, at the cost of flexibility.
