Very interesting. It does make comparing two amps which break up at different volumes tricky, unless you record and play back with level matching.

Literally, not much gets through nowadays, subtle nuances are lost. If its loud and within the pathetic hearing range I have, excellent!

I bought some Sony WH1000XM4s late last year, read reviews about how their sonic performance will allow you to hear things on your favourite tracks you can't hear on other headphones.

Not with my hearing.

Yeah I have the XM3s, they sound too bassy with the full noise cancelling.

I'm using DT770 Pros at home, and they're better for me

I can't stand hearing aids under headphones so obviously my eq is different to most lol

I compared them, as I could still get the XM3s for about $100 less. Bass response on the 4s is definitely better.

Still won't beat high end wired headphones though.

If people are saying that about active noise-cancelling headphones, you're reading the wrong reviews.

I suspect a bit of overselling of the performance was involved, or they were being compared to those headphones they sell in BP petrol stations. Regardless, they do sound excellent and the What HiFi review was suitably glowing.

I watched the first part and thought: I can't hear the slightest difference between them, so let it run on expecting to be told my ears were total crap, only to be told they were the same clip played twice. I gave up after that.
