In case anyone isn’t aware, Mouser NZ has Hammond transformers and shipping (from USA probably) is free for over $50:

You’d get more oomph out of replacing the valve rectifier with a weber copper cap, or get a tech to wire in silicon diodes instead. It’d stiffen up and slightly boost the power supply, for more headroom and possibly more bass.StrummersOfThunder wrote: ↑Tue Jan 19, 2021 9:35 pm For surf guitar we are after big bottom end and plenty of headroom

Re: output transformer upgrade ?
I upgraded the OT in my old Bandmaster. Sounded good, but not a huge difference.
Since you already have a big clean surf (crack) amp, do you need to mod this old beasty?

Re: output transformer upgrade ?
I think I'll just go for an OME replacement that has 4/8/16 taps
Was just interested in the ideas around going bigger. But as bender points out, part of the charm of the tremolux is that it isn't a 100w showman or bassman

Re: output transformer upgrade ?
You could run an 8ohm cab on that 4ohm tap without issues.
Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...

Re: output transformer upgrade ?
I've ordered the mouser 1760j
If someone is in the know can they link the type of rotary switch I'd need to make it impedance switchable ?

This is the type that you’d need:
https://nz.rs-online.com/web/p/rotary-switches/4289588/
Probably cheaper options but these ones are really solid
