If only you'd decided this last Wednesday, I could have put it in your hands this morning
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Fellas, have a read of this and tell me what you think..
(From Fryette directly when I asked about using one of those Jaycar ones)

"Gareth,

Thank you for contacting Fryette Amplification.

Unfortunately, there is no included step-down transformer available from us. VK is not supposed to sell overseas because the 120V model is not certified for opertion in your region.

Of course it will operate with a step-up transformer, but please be aware that a line voltage spike could be exaggerated by such a transformer and could cause damage your Power Station that would not be covered under warranty.

If you do use a step-up transformer, a 500W unit would be the minimum recommended rating. You generally want a step-up transformer to be 2 times the product rating, which is 300W. So that would mean a 600W unit. This is to make sure it runs cool. A 500W unit will probably be OK, but again, I cannot represent or guarantee that this will be a trouble free solution."

With that said, will Olegs 800 watt unit still be an ok option?
Is step-up and step-down transformer the same thing?

It will be perfect imo. Our mains is 230 volts and you are stepping down to 115 volts as I see it!

Thanks Mike. And bless Oleg for selling me a decent unit for this!
The thing that worried me about his email, was the comment about the power surge through the line input is all.

Line voltage spike can be mitigated with a MOV surge protector device.

A voltage spike would normally hit the PSU of your amp in full. Via step down it should be halved!
