DUMBLE AMP REFERENCE

Post by Marshmallow »

Here's a quick refence for those wanting to buy D-type amps. There are plenty of different amp voicings from what I remember. Not sure if you can tell the difference just by watching the videos.

Below are the makers I recommend:

Mike&BG - Nothing better than amps made in NZ. Support the local.

AmpGuy - Very active in Dumble forums - Cheaper but parts are probably the same as the other builders. From Canada - Ships only twice a year. Deserves more recognition. Can do all types of dumbles. ODSR - ODS - JM - SSS. From $2400-3000USD (COMBO with speakers) + shipping and NZ import tax.

Welagen - Build is close to original. For higher cost amps, I recommend this builder. He's seen Dumbles first hand and probably owned them too. Active in forums. Amp cost $4200-5000USD + shipping and NZ import tax.

Ceriatone - Great amps and cheap clones. Sound is also awesome. Since their amps are handmade, modifying their amps to original spec is also easy. You can also just buy part of the kit if you want to use your own parts. $1000usd to $2000 + shipping and NZ import tax

AmpNation - Also active in the forums. Videos are all over youtube, price a little higher than AmpGuy, design is original. $3000-4500USD. + shipping and NZ import tax. Their head amps sell for roughly $6000-7000NZD in Japan

TwoRock - everyone knows this company.

Bludotone - Also very accurate. Their Bludo-Drive is their take on the ODS. The rest of the amps are sort of their own original circuit and still based on the D-style amp. From $4500USD onwards. Their amps sell for roughly $10,000nzd in Japan + shipping and NZ import tax.

ODS

#40? 70s voicing - Raw gain, Fender cleans.

#102 - Robbenford 6L6 - Most documented amp. also the bloomiest amplifier out of all the Dumble amps.

#183 - EL34

#124 6L6 - most common clone (trinity amps etc)
