Attenuation
A much discussed and explored topic but I don't think I've heard anyone suggest this:
I'm really pleased with the results from using my Boss GE-7. The volume slider will quieten everything down and the 7 band EQ compensates for much of what is lost.
That said, I totally agree with the JHS guy who says "Loud is more good", but the Boss works for me when I need big roar that doesn't drown an acoustic guitar.

Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Re: Attenuation
Probably not
Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...

Re: Attenuation
When would you ever need that? (Stupid empty guitars. It's their own fault for being empty and too quiet!)

Re: Attenuation
But where else would you run it? It wouldn't be safe between pre- and power amps, or between power amp and speaker, would it?

Re: Attenuation
Before the amp (same as turning your guitar volume down) or you could run it in an effects loop. But NOT between amp and speaker!

Re: Attenuation
This jogged my memory - had read an article about using a volume pedal in the effects loop, so I have just tried it.
I could max out the amps volume & get back to my previous bedroom level but with a richer sound.

Yes. It's on my pedalboard.

I have a love of stupid, empty guitars. At least you can still hear them during a power cut.Capt. Black wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 10:14 amWhen would you ever need that? (Stupid empty guitars. It's their own fault for being empty and too quiet!)

Re: Attenuation
So its not attenuating the amp, just the input signal, might as well use your amp volume then ???

Re: Attenuation
What Slowy is saying is that he can reduce the input volume but use the EQ to boost frequencies that fill out the sound better. Like the loudness button on your stereo does at low volume.sizzlingbadger wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 11:32 amSo its not attenuating the amp, just the input signal, might as well use your amp volume then ???

Empty guitars are fine in isolation.Slowy wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 10:42 amI have a love of stupid, empty guitars. At least you can still hear them during a power cut.Capt. ....where I'm spending a lot of time.
So there we have it; agreement!

Wot he said.
Thanks Cappy.
