Re: Soldano SLO 100 MK2
I have the Synergy preamp by Soldano and I rank it ahead of my JCM800 and Friedman BE preamps.
In other words, I have the Franklin Mint collection of the great amps of the world.

Re: Soldano SLO 100 MK2
My main gripe with the new ones is that they no longer have Deyoung transformers yet still cost the same. The new transformers are probably even cheaper than the ones in older HR100. The HR series had Mercury transformers and the new SLO has Classictone's. Which is why I bought another original one instead of the new version.
Would've been fairer if they are priced closer to the HR series but I guess you pay for it saying "Super Lead Overdrive" on it instead of "Hot Rod".

Re: Soldano SLO 100 MK2
I dunno man. Apparently Mercury Magnetics are winding the new ones to exact specs of the DeYoungs. Mike and the new Soldano manager spent a year of QC keeping an eye on them with those trannys to make sure they were done right.godgrinder wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2020 6:00 pm My main gripe with the new ones is that they no longer have Deyoung transformers yet still cost the same. I know everyone's ears are different but there's a Tone Talk episode from over 6 months ago and Mike and Dave Friedman think they sound a bit better, I dunno, my ears aren't that good

The new ones are wound by Magnetic Compnents aka Classictone, not Mercury.griff7628 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2020 6:18 pm I dunno man. The story also changed multiple times on how the new transformers sounded. Sometimes it "sounds better than the original", sometimes they are "optimised for V30's", now they say they sound exactly the same as the Deyoung.
I'm sure the new ones sound great though, but the older and cheaper Hot Rods sounded great too.

Re: Soldano SLO 100 MK2
Ah true.
Funny you say that actually, I upgraded the OT in my jet city 22h with a ClassicTone, and it's soooo clear.. almost too much clarity!
Good price though compared to Mercury.
