Hey folks,
I don't really understand all the software amp things out there and want some advice.
What's the best way to replicate my Mesa Lonestar in software form?
I really want something that plays nicely with my real-life pedals for late-night jamming and demo recording. The Garageband/Logic models (Boutique Studio amp I think?) sound atrocious to my ears.
It's relevant, I use Mac and have Logic installed. I tried getting on with Amplitube but it seems SO COMPLICATED, and I thought I had a bunch of features included but there's always some extra thing that needs updating...it's just awful. I don't want to buy lots of complicated software or an expensive package deal - I just want one amp really.
But I am also not very smart at this stuff so maybe someone just has to explain it to me simply. TIA!

I don't know what the best way is, but the Lonestar patches I have for my Kemper are spot on. I use Logic and a Mac also.

There's always Neural Amp Modeller, a free plugin that use amp profiles, much like the Kemper before it got Liquid Profiles.
tonehunt.org has oodles of NAM profiles, pretty sure there'll be Mesa profiles there too. You'll also need speaker impulse responses, there are several option options for that.

Hard to say. I haven't used Amplitude in a few years, but it didn't seem that complex. Do you open it as a track insert in Logic?

I enjoy the Neural DSP stuff and it seems straightforward to me. I have the mateus asato pack and I think one of the amps is based on a lonestar.

The Neural DSP archetypes are bloody impressive, they have a free trial and they do come up for half price a couple of times a year, black friday / cyber monday in a couple of months, there are plenty of other options out there but Neural DSP are really hitting it out of the park!
Another bonus is they have a standalone app as well as a plugin so you can use it without loading up your DAW, just select your interface and input in the settings
