That is nice.
Actually this is for. Friend. He was looking at an Ibanez gb10 (new Chinese model semi hollow for $1499 at a local music shop ). I don't think he's so much looking for a 335 clone so much as something more between a jazz box and a 335. I thought maybe one of those really nice 70s Ibanez semi hollows would fit the bill. You know the ones with the ornate bridges, nice pickups and generally lovely boards (often ebony)

I have an LR-10 from 1980ish. Cold dead hands and all that, but they are well worth the $2k or so that they have been going for recently. Maybe they are more faithful 335 clones than your friend is looking for though.

 I think he may be after something with Super-70s....
Re: 1978 "Super 70s" vs Duncan Antiquity vs 70s P.A.F.
The Ibanez Super 70 is a paf ( at 8k something) with an alnico 8 magnet witch is the holy grail of all magnets :
  • Same power as ceramic without harsh highs
  • As tight as alnico 5 but without scooped mids
  • As round and sweet as alnico 2 but more punchy and tight
Here's one of mine:

Slightly off topic — how's the Starfire working out?

Super 70 pickups are generally awesome sounding. I had some in some ole non-Ibanez beater decades ago...always wished I'd hoarded the pickups.

Yep
I would describe an AM50 as a typical 335 clone

Look I think people know what I'm describing. Those nice looking 70s and 80s Ibanez semi hollows with the frilly shit and inlays and what have you. Anywhere from the most elaborate thru to a more 335 esque guitar. They have that nice tobacco burst thing going on with flame tops and stuff.
