WTB: 2 x Celestion 12” speakers sorted

Post by Reg18 »

After using my 1960AV cab with 4 x Greenbacks this morning at a band practice I’ve come to conclusion they just aren’t tight enough for the chug that this band is doing. Keen to swap out 2 of the Greenbacks for a pair of Vintage 30 or possibly even GT75.

Hmm. I've got a 1985 Marshall 4x12 with the white label vented t75s from when they were awesome.

Mixing 75w and 25w speakers though? Is that kosher?

I’ve used a couple of cabs (admittedly years ago) with a Criss cross pattern of green backs and Vintage 30s and it sounded good.
The Vintage 30 probably dominated some what but for this band that won’t matter, it’s mostly loud noise and screaming! Precise tone isn’t so much a factor.

I just had a read. The GB is 96db and the T75 is 97db, so despite wattage differences the volume output is nearly identical meaning they'd mix pretty well.

A v30 is 100db, meaning you'd hear more of that in the mix which, to me, is rather unpleasant. YMMV.

These seem interesting. I'd probably grab one if someone else bought the set:

Greenbacks and T75''s is my favourite mix. Ryan :( put me onto it. Sounded huge with the Bogner. Just be wary of the power you put through it.

What part of the country are you in?
I might have a good deal on a Engnator 4x12 with Vintage 30 speakers in so maybe just buy a whole other cab, not that I have the space but could be easier. He wants $500 so a bit hard to turn down.

That's a good deal. Part them out at $150 a pop and job done.

What amps are you using? I chug with greenbacks all the time and they are tight enough for me even in Drop G.

JTM45 which is a bit mushy on the bass anyway. It’s only for 2 gigs probably so it’s not a big deal. Anyway I ended up buying 4x 16ohm Vintage 30s, they just happened to come with the Cab. Couldn’t turn it down at $450!!!
