Wanted: double speaker cable Y fitting

Post by Kiwiaxe »

Ok this might sound a bit weird... but someone must have the ability to make this!

I have been running two 8ohm speakers from my Mesa Boogie Mk 4 (it then runs them in parallel, resulting in 4ohms - which the amp can handle).

I've now got a Dr Z Airbrake because even at 1/10 the Mesa was TOO EFFING LOUD. But the Airbrake of course only has one input and one output. So I figure I can connect it to the 4ohm jack on the amp, and then run two speakers in parallel from the Airbrake output - so that the whole thing "sees" 4ohm.

I figure that the easiest way to do that would be to have a fitting that goes from a single 1/4" mono plug to two 1/4" mono plugs in parallel - but it would also need to be able to handle speaker loads so a normal audio one won't work.

Any clever chicken able to help me with this?
Ta

Grab a small plastic junction box and 3 jack sockets from J Car. You then have the choice of wiring one in two outs either in series and running everything at 16ohm or wiring in parallel at 4 ohm. Painfully simple. Made a series box myself and I'm a complete electro dunce..

Glad you reminded me about this as I made one a while back and just realised I now have a use for it. My Marshall is wired as two independent 2x12s but the PPIMV knob on the Marshall means I've only one speaker output.

Anyway, yes, I agree. Knock-up one of these. It'll always come in handy.

Make the effort to find Switchcraft components and be sure to use a decent quality speaker cable. I put mine in a plastic footpedal box (Noob's description). Plastic is easier to drill and seems tough enough.

If you have a drill and a soldering iron, you've got everything you need.

I'd do a photo but it's in the Band's rehearsal room.

Thanks BG for the offer, but this suits me to a T (tho slightly cheaper on Amazon). Looks pretty. Now officially nothing more for me to do but have it turn up, and plug it in. I've even found a spare speaker cable in the house :)

Same exact price on Amazon?

The shipping looks $40 less than what youshop charged me though.
