Re: Wanted: Used Gibson LP Goldtop
Yeah I was sorta wondering what the OP was hoping for here. Arent the originals of these things worth squillions ? Even the reissues are big bucks are they not ? Wasnt there an allegedly original one on TM a while back for $25k or something ?
Man even if I had a spare $25k to spend on guitars im not sure I would blow that on one guitar. Reckon I could get a lot of cool sounding different guitars for that sort of coin. Different strokes I guess.

Re: Wanted: Used Gibson LP Goldtop
good spotting! but with his asking price, after a strip and refinish/paint you might as well get a new one that is an actual Goldtop with P90sJay wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 8:29 pm Strip it and paint it gold?

40th Anni made in 1991. Les Paul launches in 1952. Gibson is good at making up history. This was their '58 reissue from 1972/73....clearly a '54.Jay wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 8:29 pm Strip it and paint it gold?

That is lovely. What a great looking finish.
(If you had told me in 2019 that Conway would soon be selling Gibsons...)

Re: Wanted: Used Gibson LP Goldtop
I assume the intent is to strip out the custom shop reissues and VOS guitars and just cover cheaper "50s Standards" and the like, which you can buy new from RS now, if you wanted.vinylguy wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 5:55 pm Yeah I was sorta wondering what the OP was hoping for here. Gibson have been trading on the supposed magic they created for a few years during the back end of the 50's for as long as I can remember. The RIs and VOS guitars are just part of their usual product range.
And Mule is right, I'm certainly not an expert, but I've read many complaints about how R7/8/9s are not faithful to the original specs (seems to vary by how much).
I have the memory of a... um... what are those things called again?

When a stamp or coin have a misprint, ie error, they get recalled pretty quickly. A few may 'escape' in the public domain and become very valuable...
So this guitar should be worth wayyyy more then...
Not?

Re: Wanted: Used Gibson LP Goldtop
Not! Cool gat though. Price seems high but I am not up to speed with second hand modern Gibson pricing. Everything seems expensive to me.

But all sorts of strange and unpredictable things happened in 2020.
(Note: I'm still not playing G guitars)
