Wanted: Used Gibson LP Goldtop

I have a question. When I search 1957 goldtop, all I get is recently built or brand new guitars with disingenuine names like vos or 'true historic'. Obviously they're neither historic nor true. Whats the secret lingo for an actual real old guitar??

They have a bit of a crap reputation but this one really is a lovely guitar. Due to this one and my Epi Sheraton, i've become a big fan of the mini-humbuckers.

At a Def Leppard concert, Vivian Campbell played a song on a '56 gold top. Unfortunately it sounded inferior to his humbucker equipped Les Pauls. Not sweet at all. Cut like a chain saw through the mix. You couldn't hear the other guitar. I wanted the song to finish so that he would put it away. That's a reason why so few gigging musicians play guitars with P90s.

Yeah so I guess my point is that it's kinda bs.

Using previous years to name a new guitar? To my mind it makes a farce of the new models. e.g. I've got a 2006 1957 goldtop.... uhhh bro, which is it... 2006 or 1957? And while I'm sure there is a keyword out there to discern the actual 1957 guitars, it's certainly not 'historic', 'true', 'vintage' or '1957'.

Perhaps it's an intentional muddying of the waters by Gibson? Not a Gib-hater, but always thought this was so wierd. Herewith my disclaimer: I am a layperson with no experience selling guitars of 'aspirational' pricing.

I see people use the R7, R8 etc. name for customshop reissues. I don't know if Gibson ever officially called them that, I think they call it a "historic reissue".

So if I said I had a 2000 R7 I think a majority of 'guitar people' would know I mean a historic reissue of a 1957 Les Paul that was produced in the year 2000? Maybe?

*edit* I guess that wouldn't actually help you to search out an authentic Les Paul that was actually produced in 1957. I'd just search by highest price first
