Not what you’re after, so not even sure why I’m jacking your thread, but that HiWatt Custom in white on TM is a sexy beast.

You don't play quietly, do you?
I remember a wonderful afternoon at home: I'd just collected 3 amps for a showcase event the following day and I got a few hoours to play with them.
Matchless Chieftan, Matchless HC30 and Matchless JJ.
All frighteningly loud.

Yeah, I had seen that one. I've never owned a Hi-Watt but there was one in the gear pool of a band named Neo of which I was a member. It was painfully ( think cranked twin reverb through ali domed jbl's ) loud well before any kind of breakup so I always used one of the Jmp's instead.

You're observation sir is correct. 20 years of outdoor bloke behaviour, chainsaw's weedeater's etc etc has robbed me of most of my dexterity. Knocks on the head and coccyx, the ability to retain information so I'm left with tone as my sole recourse when playing. Big Iron and quad cabs seem to be requisite.

I sold the HC30 I'd had for ten years after reading on forums about all the new low powered boutique amps and higher wattage modern speakers. THe Matchless would rattle every window in the house even in 15 watt mode and while it sounded sublime I was missing the Marshall edge which had provided much of the soundtrack to my life.

Ultimately the lower powered amps have failed in one way or another to blow up my proverbial skirt and I definitely prefer the sound of 4 ( of the same ) low wattage speakers to the output of either a single modern high spec model or a mismatched pair.

I already have quads each containing one of the speakers used in Matchless normal mismatch so all I nee now is another amp.

The new Hc15 looks pretty cool but only has space for a single rectifier tube and I know from my period of ownership that these amps come alive in a different way running a pair of 5v4's.

Wonderful amps; at stage volumes, they're unbeatable. Though I did feel the Chieftan was more than anybody except Captain Black could ever use.
