Davy Stuart OM acoustic

Post by vinylguy »

Up for regretful sale is my Davy Stuart OM acoustic. Lattice braced cedar top with hog back sides and neck, rosewood fingerboard and bridge. Very nidcely made and finished in a workmanship type of way, feels very solid but not heavy. Sound is very loud, projects well, tonally somewhere a bit more characterful than an equivalent modern Martin. Nut width is 1 and 9/16, but Davy is a finfgerstyle guy of some renown and this was his gigging guitar for a bit. Lattice bracing on the cedar top seems to remove the typical muddiness from a cedar top that I dont like. This guitar is not mint as it has been well played over the years and has some minor scrapes and blemishes on it, but nothing large horrible ugly or objectionable. I paid $2700 for this iirc looking for $1500 but open to reasonable offers. No HSC but has a gigbag. Currently strung with DR and will inc a new set of strings with the sale.

Reason for sale: Broke and unemployed.

Hopefully the photos will appear on here....

I first met him about 10 years ago when he had his workshop in south shore. Went through the process of ordering a guitar, choosing woods etc. Unfortunately all my tonewoods were lost in the earthquakes, and Davy has now moved to Richmond. was looking at ordering another custom build when I bought this but the employment situation in Nelson is very insecure. TBH if this plague wasnt here I would sell up and be gone: well over it.
Davy is a lovely bloke, really helpful and knowledgeable. Im hoping he wont find out I am selling this as I really had to talk him into selling it to me.

I take the point of view that we are only guardians of these things. i have enjoyed owning and playing this whilst it is in my possession but now it is time for someone else to enjoy it.

I got them from Elderly in the Us after I read a review of them in Acoustic guitar. The other strings I liked on this guitar were the DR strings but I find the Santa Cruz in a different league altogether. I wouldnt call them bright though...

I should also note that the guys in the band gave me a huge amount of shit about the naming of the strings as parabolic tension strings....

That's one hell of a deal from an all solid wood, hand-made guitar. Surely somebody wants it for that price?

Have barely worked for 10 months. Otherwise I'd be all over it.
